ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Inspired by the iconic character of Wozzeck, Marie delves into the struggles of a single mother facing her sexual freedom, who ends up being stoned by society and murdered by her lover. Thus, if Georg Büchner’s work and its counterpart, Wozzeck by Alban Berg, are considered the tragedy of contemporary man, Marie presents the tragedy of contemporary woman.
As if in a trial, we learn about our protagonist through both the testimonies offered and the author’s fictional creation of a character who is silenced prematurely, in a work where the superposition of planes blurs reality. Marie represents a deconstruction of Berg’s composition, a paradigm of 20th-century music, as well as a return to the origins of opera as a genre intrinsically linked to Greek tragedy, understood as an amalgamation of artistic expressions with the aim of becoming a social tool.
