ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

A story about the struggles that led to the creation of his debut work, “Katyusha no Uta.”

This is an original work by the Sapporo Chamber Opera, written using over 28 pieces of music by Shinpei himself (including familiar children’s songs such as “Bubbles” and “Teru Teru Bozu”), and has been performed many times since its premiere in 1997, gaining great popularity.

This opera uses Shinpei Nakayama’s music to depict the struggles he faced in creating his debut work, “Katyusha’s Song.”
“Katyusha’s Song” was a love song that Shinpei’s teacher, Hogetsu Shimamura, asked him to compose for the heroine, Katyusha, when he was staging Tolstoy’s “Resurrection.” The love between Hogetsu and Sumako is also an important element of “The Story of Shinpei Nakayama.” When
Shinpei is struggling with composing, the “sound spirit” in Shinpei’s head, the poet Ujo Noguchi, and the “folk singer,” give him hints.
“Katyusha’s Song” is the first memorable work that incorporates everything about the future great composer Nakayama Shinpei into a 12-bar melody.
