ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Waltraud Meier (born January 9, 1956) made her breakthrough at the Bayreuth Festival in 1983 as Kundry in Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal” and since then she has been considered one of the most important Wagner interpreters internationally. In addition to her Wagner interpretations and opera roles, she also received great attention in the song department.

“Each moment has its own truth. It’s the same with us humans in everyday life and it has nothing to do with fickleness. Instead, every moment is in a different context. And that’s how I see it with the roles: the moment has to be right! And if the moment is different because I have a different colleague in front of me and he answers me differently than the colleague in the same role the week before, then I have to react differently. So I always get much more involved in the moment than bringing something ready-made to the stage that I would think: ‘Yes, that’s pretty much perfect!’ Because something like that wouldn’t live for me, and because it If it weren’t alive, it wouldn’t be perfect either. I probably also have a different idea of what is right: right for me is the moment that is right.”
