ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The composer and professor of the Conservatory, José Miguel Moreno Sabio, composed this cantata on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the declaration of Cuenca as a World Heritage City.
Moreno himself presented the work to the mayor, Ángel Mariscal, in a symbolic donation that was attended by the Cuenca City of Music Association.
The work Via Crucis is a sacred cantata for baritone, mixed choir, white voice choir, band with piano and organ, on a text based on the Holy Scriptures and religious poems by various authors.
Moreno has previously premiered a work at the Teatro de la Zarzuela together with the Escolanía Ciudad de Cuenca, although on this occasion he has preferred that the city in which he works be the one to see the premiere of his score. On this occasion, Via Crucis will be performed by musicians belonging to the Orfeón Ciudad de Cuenca, as many voices from the Escolanía Ciudad de Cuenca and the City Symphonic Band. They will be directed by Miguel Arribas and will feature the participation of the baritone Carlos Lozano. There will be a total of about 150 members, including adult voices, children and instruments, as well as piano and organ.
