ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Every story has more than one side. With each narration, the story is revived…but never exactly repeated. Consciously or unconsciously, we change details and perspectives when telling the story, shape our story with all the encounters and experiences we have had in our lives and adapt it to our listeners.
In her production of Peter Maxwell Davies The Medium, director Daniela Victoria Kiesewetter deals with the trauma of the main character. As an audience, we live through and reflect on a section of her memories together with the actress. The medium is caught up in her own experiences and cannot escape them as we embark on a quest to find the true me and lose ourselves in the chaos we call “self”.
Musically, Davies’ composition is a great challenge for the singer, who embodies various characters alone on stage without instrumental accompaniment, a confrontation with the past and with herself. But who are these characters? Are they different personalities of our medium? Is it spirits who want to warn you about something or remind you of something? Or is it just different perspectives of a constantly repeating story?
Confronted with all facets of our character, the boundaries between reality and appearance, between I and you, become blurred, an endless search for what makes us us.
Do you know who you are?
