ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The Last Day is Armando Lôbo’s second opera-film. Freely inspired by a legendary episode involving one of Pernambuco’s greatest popular music composers, Levino Ferreira, the micro-opera discusses in a dramatic and acidic way the universe of popular culture, the sense of redemption, the carnivalization of death. As an opera-poetry, or audiovisual “poemopera”, The Last Day has a very multifaceted format, combining theater, cinema, poetry, performance, music and artistic dance. The conceptual content of the work also has multiple references: Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues, Sigmund Freud (Totem and Taboo), Mikhail Bakhtin and the great Portuguese poet Antero de Quental. The work won awards and nominations at Brazilian and international film festivals.
SYNOPSISIn a parallel world, three mourners sing and mourn the death of a popular culture master. The crying produces a surprising cathartic effect and the deceased gets up in the middle of the wake. He had had a cataleptic crisis.(Visited 136 times, 1 visits today)
