ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
In addition to his operas, Menotti wrote music for several ballets, numerous choral works, chamber music, orchestral music of varying kinds including a symphony, and stage plays. Notable among these is his cantata The Death of the Bishop of Brindisi, written in 1963
In 1963, his cantata The Death of the Bishop of Brindisi concerning the Children’s Crusade of 1212 premiered at the Cincinnati May Festival to good reviews.
The Death of the Bishop of Brindisi” is a choral work with soprano and baritone solos. Concerning itself as it does with the famous early 13th‐century Children’s Crusade, the score naturally uses a children’s chorus.
