ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
“Silla” is an opera seria by George Frideric Handel circa 1713, and is one of the earlier and lesser-known of the prolific composer’s 42(!) operas. Roman emperor Lucio Cornelio Silla is a cruel tyrant who betrays his compatriots, abuses his friends’ wives, and shames his country. Will he realize his dictatorial ambitions or be overthrown by those closest to him? Experience the epic story and music in this gritty, predominantly female-cast production presented by Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, featuring a modern English translation of Rossi’s original Italian libretto.
