ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Seokju Lee Sang-ryong was born in Andong in 1858 and studied as an orthodox Confucian scholar with Seosan Kim Heung-rak, a great scholar in the Yeongnam academic world, as his teacher. When Korea and Japan were annexed, he organized all of his property in 1911 and fled to Manchuria with about 50 family members. He served as the first state decree of the Provisional Government.
Imcheonggak in Andong, the birthplace of Seokju Lee Sang-ryong, became more prominent and interested in the status and interest of Andong Imcheonggak when President Moon Jae-in specified in his 2017 Liberation Day congratulatory address, “Imcheonggak is a space that symbolizes Korea’s noblesse oblige.”
