ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

With a set of arias and some duets from great operas by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, such as “Turandot,” “Tosca,” “Gianni Schicchi” and “La Bohemia,” the Sinaloa Opera Workshop began its activities for this year, within its biweekly program Wednesday Concerts, this time at the Pablo de Villavicencio Theater of the Sinaloa Institute of Culture.

The vocalists were accompanied on the piano by the teachers Zlatina Valkova and Ifigenia Lejarza, with the artistic direction of the tenor José Manuel Chu, and the baritone Cristian Prida opened with the aria “Vecchia Zimarra” (from the opera “La Bohemia”), followed by the soprano Miroslava Aguilar with “Senza mamma, o bimbo, tu sei morto!” (from “Suor Angélica”), accompanied by previous allusive comments, to place the listener in the context of each theme.

In this tribute to the great Giacomo Puccini (Lucca, 1858 – Brussels, 1924), mezzo-soprano Estefanía Silva performed “Signore, ascolta!” (from “Turandot”) and tenor Alexander Torres offered a solid version of “Non piangere, Liù” (from “Turandot”), with which they were greatly applauded by the audience.

The first duet was performed by Jaquez Reyes and Cristian Prida, tenor and baritone, respectively), who sang “In un coupè… ¡O Mimì!” (from “La Bohemia”), and soprano Gabriela Zazueta was applauded with “In quelle trine morbide” (from “Manon Lescaut”) and Jaquez Reyes sang “Che gelida manina” (“La Bohemia”).

From the opera “Tosca”, soprano Claudia Puebla continued with “Vissi d’arte”; Tenor Antonio Arrubarrena sang “E lucevan le stelle”, in which they had the excellent accompaniment of Erick M. Castro, on the clarinet, and Alexander Torres and Claudia Puebla sang “Ah, quegli occhi!”.

And two songs from the opera “Gianni Schicchi”, one by tenor Leoncio Luna who gave a good interpretation of the aria “Era uguale la voce?… Si corre dal notaio”, while soprano Jessica Torrero excelled with the famous “O mio babbino caro”, which garnered some bravos.

Another duet was performed by Miroslava Aguilar and Antonio Arrubarrena with “Dimmi perché gli hai chiesto” (from the opera “Il Tabarro”), which received much applause, and ended with a quartet from “La Bohemia”, the scene of the two couples in the park in which while one swears eternal love the other quarrels: “Dunque proprio è finita”, in the voices of Gabriela Zazueta, Leoncio Luna, Jaquez Reyes and Claudia Puebla, who were greatly applauded, as was the entire ensemble when they said goodbye.
