ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Finished and done with. Gioachino Rossini was only 37 years old when he hurled his “Basta!” as a composer at his fan community. He had already created more than 40 operas by this time. After that came a long silence, depression – and a life as a gourmet. Rossini found personal support in his faith, which can be heard, for example, in his “Petite Messe solennelle”. The title is pure understatement, for the only thing small about it is the instrumentation. Hardly any other sacred work praises the divine so exuberantly, so joyfully.
