ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Based on Mário de Andrade’s libretto and his theoretical provocation for a choral opera, in which society’s groups were portrayed as a collectivity and not as individuals, we invited composer Felipe Senna for a brand new creation. The libretto, which revolves around the 1929 crisis that paralyzed the ports, expelled peasants from farms and sparked a popular revolution, will be partly updated. It is part of the centenary celebrations of the Week of Modern Art. This will be, after the experience of Hans-Joachim Koellreutter in the 1990s, a contemporary and fresh approach to this very instigating text by Mário de Andrade.
