ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Set on the day of the proclamation of the Republic, in 1889, the show is presented in one act. The plot focuses on the saga of the engineer André Rebouças (1838-1898), and behind the scenes of the emblematic November 15th, counting from the reaction of the royal family to his subsequent condemnation to exile.
Son of a freed black woman and a Portuguese lawyer who became an advisor to Emperor Dom Pedro II, Rebouças was an important articulator of the abolitionist movement and one of the creators of the Brazilian Society Against Slavery. He remained a monarchist and accompanied Dom Pedro II on his return to Portugal, having lived in Lisbon for two years before moving to other countries and dying on May 9, 1898 in Madeira Island.
