ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Quote from Wikipedia:

Cocciante and Plamondon, as they stated, wrote the work for the pure pleasure of writing music, without thinking of realizing it in stage form. When the work was finished, however, the result was of such quality that they were forced to transform it into a theatrical performance.

On 16 September 1998 the opera made its debut in Paris directed by Gilles Maheu, who, following the wishes of the authors, instead of developing the action theatrically as in a musical, set up a show in semi-scenic form, with sets and singers in costume who however interact only partially, interpreting the pieces in an almost concert form, alternating with the corps de ballet which performs the choreographies separately.

The songs Vivre , Le Temps des cathédrales , and Belle were released as singles in France, achieving good success. Live for the One I Love , English version of Vivre was recorded by Céline Dion .

The success of the Parisian production prompted the authors to export the show, making adaptations in many countries. From its Parisian debut to 2008 the show was staged in France , South Korea , Belgium , Switzerland , Canada , Russia , Spain , as well as Italy , the United Kingdom and the USA .

A first version in English, with lyrics by Will Jennings , was presented albeit largely cut in 2000 in Las Vegas , followed by the complete edition which debuted in London on May 23 of the same year, remaining on stage for seventeen months in West End with good public success (although much lower than the Parisian edition).

The Italian version, with production by David Zard , premiered at the GranTeatro in Rome on March 14, 2002 with Italian lyrics by Pasquale Panella . On 4 September 2003 the show was broadcast live from the Verona Arena on Rai 1 . In 2022 the opera celebrated its twentieth anniversary with a tour in which the original 2002 cast took part.
