  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Opera extravaganza by A. Petrov in 2 acts, staged by the Leningrad State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after S. M. Kirov. Libretto by M. Rozovsky, poems by V. Mayakovsky and Russian poets of the early 20th century. Choreography and production by N. Kasatkina and V. Vasilyov. Conductor – Yu. Temirkanov.

We know Vladimir Mayakovsky as a poet, as a master of words, we know him as an artist, but few people know his musical passions. And he loved music, loved to sing opera arias, romances, Russian folk, student and revolutionary songs. And when young Mayakovsky sang, his bass drowned out all the other voices.

We invite you to watch an opera extravaganza with ballet elements, where vocal arias alternate with choreographic numbers, songs with oratorical slogans, where the grotesque, fantasy and reality are mixed. Where the hero of the play, the poet himself, will meet… with Hamlet, Raskolnikov, Don Quixote and the eternal question “To be or not to be?” will answer…
