  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Selections from the traditional operatic repertoire such as “Vissi d’arte” by Puccini, as well as the beautiful aria “Al Partir” with lyrics from the splendid poetry of Gertrudis López de Avellaneda, an aria included in one of the most recent operas of today ” Miami Transfer” , with music by Luis Prado and Libretto by Daniel Daroca. The repertoire included beautiful songs and works by the American composer Amy Beach, as well as other very pleasant musical surprises.

The story, whose dialogues were masterfully improvised by Sandra López and Daniel Daroca, told us about the always intriguing space-time relationship, translated through the grandmother’s house as space and the remembrances around the objects that inhabit it. . The memory of the grandmother, the central and hidden character of the work, is what carries the common thread, the thread of Ariadne.

Grandma is the perfume that inhabits the house and impregnates all the objects that make it up. Grandma represents inspiration, the compass, the telescope. Who taught his grandchildren the art of navigation, dreams, creativity, art and music.

It refers us to our Latin cultures, the one we bring, added to the one that shelters us from the echoes of exile, and shows us our cultural seams, and roots exalted through art, music, poetry…

A space of memories poured into each object brought from Cuba to Miami, as one of its actors points out, “What was possible was preserved and much had to be left,” – I would add – and much that was brought and became a legacy. Immediately we heard in clear Spanish “Let’s play, the music is to enjoy it.”
