ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Originally, Les Enfants terribles was a danced chamber opera for four voices and three pianos, composed by Philip Glass in 1996 based on the eponymous play by Cocteau and the film he co-directed with Jean-Pierre Melville. The dream, the visual imagination, the exploration and the shift take place in a unique state of listening and sensations… Philip Glass’s repetitive music produces a trance effect until the inevitably fatal, inevitably sublime outcome.
At the invitation of the co[opera]tive, Phia Ménard, whose productions always push back the limits of the body and matter, uses this opera to question our society’s relationship to aging. To do justice to the choreographic and minimalist dimension of the music, a spectacular scenography in perpetual motion becomes the playground of the four male and female singers, the actor-narrator and the three pianists directed by Emmanuel Olivier.
