Director’s note:
Figaro is a timeless and exquisitely human piece, full of genuine mistakes, failed plans, and complex relationships. We have brought the story into the year 1939, at the cusp of the Second World War, but the characters could walk off the stage and join 2022 just as easily. We are still fighting many of the same inequities in social hierarchy, sexism, and patriarchal structures that harm all of us, but this piece also shows that there is still humor and love in the world to be shared with those close to us. Thank you for joining us for one of the most perfect pieces of theater in the opera canon, I know you will enjoy the creativity, playfulness, and vulnerability this group of emerging opera singers are bringing to stage immensely.
