Emotional anniversary program
With personal premieres and loving retrospectives, which brought a re-listening to particularly acclaimed arias and duets from concert history, Elīna Garanča celebrated the 15th Göttweig anniversary. One of the most personal premieres of what is probably the world’s most famous mezzo-soprano was the aria “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca, one of Giacomo Puccini’s most challenging and famous arias. For the special anniversary occasion, Karel Mark Chichon, who acted as conductor and musical director, had once again put together a medley. Under the title “Around the World”, he chose popular songs from all over the world, including “My Way” and “New York, New York”. There were also Austrian favorites such as “My lips kiss so hot” from Giuditta as well as the Vilja song from The Merry Widow, both ear-pleasers from Franz Lehár’s operettas. All of these parts of the medley were also sung for the first time by Elīna Garanča.
