ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
PROGRAMME
Uraufführung von “Beyond” des österreichischen Komponisten Marcus Nigsch
Sven Helbig, „Requiem A“ österreichische Erstaufführung
May 8, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht and the official end of World War II in Europe. To mark this occasion, the Mauthausen Committee Austria (MKÖ) is organizing the Festival of Joy on Vienna’s Heldenplatz for the 13th time. The event commemorates the victims of National Socialism and celebrates the liberation from Nazi terror.
🧭 Thematic Focus 2025
“80 Years of Liberation from National Socialism – For a Never Again and Peace in Europe”
This year’s theme not only underscores the historical dimension of commemoration, but also calls for the lessons of the past to be kept alive for the present and future.
✨The highlight of the Festival of Joy 2025 will be the speech by contemporary witness Paul Lendvai. We are delighted and grateful that Paul Lendvai, a influential and analytical voice in contemporary European history, will speak at the Festival of Joy in this important year of remembrance.
🎼Musical Highlights of the Festival of Joy
We look forward to an outstanding musical program – featuring the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Martin Lehmann (Kreuzkantor), the world premiere of “Beyond” by Austrian composer Marcus Nigsch, René Pape (bass), the Dresden Kreuzchor, the Neue Wiener Stimmen, and Sven Helbig, whose work “Requiem A” will be performed in its Austrian premiere.
🤝 Let us celebrate Liberation Day together – at Vienna’s Heldenplatz and remember the victims of Nazi terror 80 years ago.
Together for a “Never Again” and peace in Europe.
