ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Grand opera in five acts. Libretto in French by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on their own play “Faust et Marguerite” , inspired by Wolfgang von Goethe’s “Faust, part I” .
The story of Faust, Marguerite and Mephistopheles offers Gounod the opportunity to produce some of the most celebrated melodies in the lyrical repertoire in the format of the French grand opera: five acts, ballet scenes and a powerful chorus. And to put into music the most important decision, the one that confronts the human being with good and evil. Stefano Poda, stage director of this production premiered at the Teatro Regio in Torino in 2015, rather than putting the opera on stage, builds, from elements of the work, a poetic world where the work inhabits.
