ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Commissioned by the Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019, Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage received its premiere in Chengdu by Sichuan Phil under the baton of Hong Kong based conductor Wilson Ng in the same year.
The work consists of five movements distributing six of Dufu’s famous poems:
I. Madman; II. On the Tower; III. Rain in a Spring Night; To General Hua; IV. Mounting; and V. Ode to My Cottage Unroofed by the Autumn Gales.
Du Fu is a famed poet of the Tang Dynasty (618 A.D.-907 A.D.) Composed for voice and orchestra, this work shows Du Fu’s great attachment to the country and its people, emodying the composer’s deep humanistic feelings, culminating in the final movement.
The composition shows a very noble humanistic sentiment: its melody is moving, its music is deeply touching. It is one of the composer’s most important outputs in recent years.
