Massacre of Schubert’s music: awful orchestration, Alagnas’s singing like a neapolitan song. What about the words of Schubert’s Lied from “The Lady of theLake”? Many years ago the R.A.I. made beautiful Christma’s concerts, in Assisi too. E.g. both “Magnificat” by J.S. Bach and Vivaldi under conducting of John Eliot Gardiner. And others more.
Wonderful performance by tenor Alagna, a perfect mastery of his singing, sober, generous and powerful. Everything interpreted with great sincerity and obvious chemistry with the sacred place. The tribute to JPII with this surprising Polish version of Stille Nacht is amazing. Minuit Chrétiens impressive (well done the Bb!) and Schubert’s Ave Maria so moving. I love the end of the prayer sung like that in falsetto, bravo Maestro! Hauser’s performance nice as well. We enjoyed this concert very much with my family! Thank you to the RAI (and to the uploader).
