Porphyry Bazhansky was criticized by composers, in particular, Stanislav Lyudkevych in his speech in the 30s of the twentieth century said that Bazhansky is “a musical maniac, a garbage of musical literature that litters the tastes of our youth.” He was harassed by writers such as Ivan Franko, who honored the collection published by Bazhansky (“Russian-folk Galician melodies” with more than 4,000 Ukrainian folk melodies recorded by other collectors of folklore from Galicia), such words: “The great collection of Fr. Bazhansky, with theoretical works on music published by this collector, he greatly compromised the scientific value of the collection itself.
But for the most part, Bazhansky was overlooked as something marginal and insignificant, and his music was equated with a passion for beekeeping. Although there is also a question: Father Porphyry was an outstanding beekeeper, the inventor of the hive of his own design: he introduced a new method of swarming bees, which allowed to significantly increase the collection of honey. By the way, he scientifically conceived his work: he was published in the magazine “Bartnik postępowy”, published in Lviv, wrote a number of books, such as “Beekeeping Calendar”, “Nature and life of bees”, “New mistress in a honey apiary” and “Honey plants”.
