  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Every January, Music of Remembrance offers a free Art From Ashes concert at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2025, this commemoration coincided exactly with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The concert, MOR’s gift to the community, emphasized the vital musical contributions made within the walls of Nazi concentration camps, demonstrating the expansive capacity of artists to create, even in the face of insurmountable injustice. The program, emblematic of MOR’s mission to ensure that the music and the lessons of the Holocaust are not lost, ranged from cabaret songs created by prisoners in the Terezín concentration camp, to selections that were played by a prisoner orchestra in Auschwitz, to music from the Vilna and Lodz ghettos. The music brings a message of hope and perseverance, while at the same time reminding us of the urgency of standing up to oppression when we see it in our own world.
