ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Synopsis of the opera
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a nightclub in the bustling city of Caracas, a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic tale Alice in Wonderland unfolds . The opera Alice , with music and libretto by Venezuelan composer Ángel Hernández Lovera, immerses us in a delirious and emotional night, where an 18-year-old girl named Alice faces the transition to adulthood and desperately searches for her identity in an unknown and constantly changing world.
From the moment the audience walks through the doors of the club, they become an integral part of the action, strategically placed as patrons at tables surrounding the stage. Here, amidst flashing lights, opulent curtains and an illuminated bar, the story comes to life in a unique and immersive way.
The singers embody characters with distinctive psychological traits that play a crucial role in Alice’s search for identity. From the very beginning, they appear on stage, interacting with the “customers” and singing their tunes from different corners of the club. Meanwhile, the musicians, visible to everyone, blend into the atmosphere as the club’s musical group, harmoniously merging with the night’s atmosphere.
Amidst the music and electric atmosphere of the club, we follow Alice on her journey of self-discovery as she faces a series of surreal challenges and encounters. In this emotional odyssey, Alice’s internal struggle to find her place in the world is explored, facing external influences and issues presented to her by the rest of the cast, such as bipolarity, identity, excess and temptation.
Alice is much more than an adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale; it is a reflection of the contemporary experience of youth, where universal themes of identity and growth intertwine with the nightlife of a big city. Through innovative staging and active audience participation, the opera invites the audience to reflect on their own experiences and challenges in facing the transition to adulthood.
In short, Alice is an unforgettable theatrical and musical experience that reinvents the operatic genre, offering a fresh and exciting vision of a timeless classic in the contemporary context of the city of Caracas.
