Teatro Ponchielli, thanks to an international co-production, is pleased to present the premiere of the opera A Sweet Silence in Cremona , commissioned by New York University “Casa Italiana Zerilli – Marimò” in Florence and co-produced with the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York , one of the most prestigious institutions in the world that dedicates its activity to the promotion, development and valorization of contemporary opera.
A Sweet Silence in Cremona takes inspiration from a unique event that occurred in Cremona in January 2019. During the realization of the Banca del Suono project, the streets around the Arvedi Auditorium were closed to allow the recording and creation of a database of notes of four masterpieces by Stradivari, Amati and Guarneri from the collection of the Museo del Violino. The dramaturgy of the work imagines in this scenario seven human lives (and a dog) who live near the museum, whose lives unexpectedly intertwine, alternating comic moments with moving situations, and then culminating, in the final scene, in a song to love tout court where all the protagonists gather around the female protagonist as she falls asleep sweetly.
