The grand national final of the “Voix des Outre-mer” Competition – organized, once again, in a crowded Amphitheater of the Opéra Bastille – marks the progress made since the creation of this event, and confirms the sustainability of an event , which now has its place in the musical ecosystem. Its creators can be proud of the increased support of their patrons, as well as the assurance of their financial and media partners, whose regularity and support are real reasons for satisfaction.

Thanks to these essential elements, the “Voices of Overseas” allow a large number of hopefuls or future talents to be noticed, outside their distant territories, and to be able, thus, to follow a musical course, or good to embark on an international career.

Six women and five men had the chance to be selected and to prepare, in Paris, in the best conditions. Accompanied by pianist Kazuko Iwashima, these perfect self-taught people, enlightened amateurs or already professionals, aged 16 to 42, are all keen to show their determination and take advantage of what they rightly consider to be a human adventure. unique.

Marguerite Berger, from Guyana, performs a short but valiantly performed “Dove sono” (Le nozze di Figaro). Registered for the Competition by a person whose identity she does not know, it is not certain, however, that Laetitia Solère, another soprano, originally from Reunion Island, karaoke enthusiast and fan of Céline Dion, is right to pass lyrically, with this “O mio babbino caro” (Gianni Schicchi) with roughly underlined features.

Keylian Jaar, who arrived from Martinique, does not make much of an impression in À Chloris by Reynaldo Hahn, a melody sung in a frail countertenor voice, with more than relative accuracy. In the same register, Keyvan Liufau Bui Ngoc, from New Caledonia, addresses, with lip service, the famous “I lost my Eurydice” (Orpheus and Eurydice). Despite his efforts and his capital sympathy, the apprentice baritone Joshua de Lizaraga, a native of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, shows himself to be very fragile, in the Song of the Death of Ibert’s Don Quixote.

Respectively from Guadeloupe and Martinique, Angerick William, baritone who became, in a few weeks, countertenor – with sometimes metallic high notes and still straight delivery, in “Ombra mai fu” (Serse) –, and Julienne Mahailet, soprano very comfortable in a sensual and fiery “He is gentle, he is good” (Hérodiade), both receive a Mention of Encouragement.

The Audience Award rewards mezzo Alice Ferrière, from Reunion Island, for a cautious “Habanera” (Carmen), a little too articulate, but without adverse effects. Representing Mayotte, soprano Yvanna Burel, only 16 years old, leaves with a well-deserved “Young Talent” Prize, after a confidently screened “Summertime” (Porgy and Bess).

Already a finalist in the previous edition of the Competition, Winona Berry, a mezzo with a clear, colorful and lively tone, was awarded the “Voices of Overseas” Prize, after having launched, with great confidence, in the air of Stéphano, “What are you doing, white dove? » (Romeo and Juliet), thus honoring Saint-Barthélemy.
