ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The action takes place in Havana. The protagonist of the play is María la O, a beautiful mulatto woman who has several suitors. Among them are the Spanish aristocrat Fernando de Alcázar, known as Niño Fernando, the Spanish industrialist Santiago Mariño, and José Inocente. The latter is a native who has sworn to kill anyone who harms his beloved. María la O falls in love with Fernando without knowing that he is engaged to Niña Tula, who is the daughter of the Marqués del Palmar. Finally, Niño Fernando marries Niña Tula. José Inocente kills Fernando. According to another version, José Inocente wants to kill Niño Fernando, but María la O stops him because she is going to have a child by Fernando and she does not want to see the father of her child dead
