Giuseppe Giacomini (Veggiano, 7 September 1940 – Voltago Agordino, 28 July 2021) was an Italian tenor.
He made his debut in Vercelli with Madama Butterfly in 1966 attending traditional theaters, to then appear in Parma in Manon Lescaut in 1969 and, from the following year, also begin to perform abroad, in particular in Berlin (Manon Lescaut) in 1970, Lisbon (The cloak) in 71, Barcelona (Tosca) in 72, Vienna in 73.
In 1974 he made his important debut at La Scala with La bohème, which was followed by regular appearances in the Milanese theater in the eighties and nineties, as well as in the other major Italian theaters: San Carlo in Naples, Regio in Turin, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, etc. ..
1976 was the year of his debut at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Palais Garnier in Paris, in both cases with La forza del destino, and 1980 was the year of his debut at the Royal Opera House in London with La fanciulla del west. He later appeared in, among others, Moscow, Cairo, Seoul (on the occasion of the opening of the Olympic Games).
In 1981 in Rome he took part in the revival of Donizetti’s Fausta, in 1990 in Livorno in the world premiere of Tutino’s La lupa and in 1993 in Frankfurt in the revival of Leoncavallo’s I Medici.
From 2000 he thinned out, appearing sporadically in concerts and some operatic performances until 2010.
Essentially a dramatic tenor, endowed with a large volume voice combined with a remarkable range, he was awarded the title of Kammersänger at the Vienna State Opera, the “Viotti d’oro” and the “Giovanni Zenatello Prize”.
