ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The great Russian musical storyteller Nikolai Andreevich Rimsky-Korsakov was a naval officer and traveled around the world. And this is a real story.

His friends and biographers explained the composer’s passion for Russian folklore and the fairy tale genre by the fact that his worldview was formed under the influence of popular ideas about the Universe, God, nature and man. Rimsky-Korsakov comprehended folk wisdom through Russian folklore – songs, tales, fairy tales, rituals. Folk art was the moral and artistic source of his inspiration.

The composer’s music reflected ancient pantheistic beliefs, admiration for nature and eternal femininity. Therefore, in his operas and symphonic works there are wonderful heroes, smart, but often naive people, whose soul does not know envy and malice, and is open to the world. They personify the best qualities of the soul of a Russian person.

In the year of the 180th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian composer, musicologist Vera Timofeeva and soloists of the Tomsk Regional Philharmonic will present a multicolored portrait of N.A. Russky-Korsakov. The concert will feature the most famous arias from the operas “Snow Maiden”, “Sadko”, “The Tsar’s Bride”, “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” and Russian romances.
