According to Arturo Díez Boscovich, “for a creator it is an immense joy to see everything that has been brewing for a long time come true; The sound image that he has been composing alone in his studio comes to life today and occupies a sound and scenic space; This is something that is glorious for me . Furthermore, he opportunely points out that “the viewer will find an absolutely elegant, mysterious, wonderful story, full of love, jealousy, all the feelings that make us human and that we all share .” And he highlights, of course, “the luxury of having the opportunity to put music to the great work of Lope de Vega with an intelligent adaptation by Lluís Pasqual .” He is convinced that “on this occasion love and music will come pouring out of the Teatro de la Zarzuela.”
For his part, Guillermo García Calvo, musical director of this premiere, is “very excited to contribute to new musical creation looking towards the future with this beautiful opera .” He comments that the score of The Knight of Olmedo by Arturo Díez Boscovich “has been a beautiful discovery for its passionate orchestral writing , elaborated by synthesizing the best of the tradition of soundtrack composers who emigrated from Central Europe to Hollywood, such as Erich Korngold and Miklós Rózsa , with enormous knowledge of vocal writing . The orchestra director also emphasizes that “the music is not a mere accompaniment to Lope de Vega’s verses but rather it transmits the emotions of the characters , it completes everything that the words of the text do not say in an enveloping, almost hypnotic way.” , with the very personal stamp of Díez Boscovich in the use of harmonies, modulations and instrumentation , which make the work an immense symphonic poem with singing.
