Barbara Haveman (born 1968 in Groningen ) is a Dutch opera singer ( soprano ).
Barbara Haveman studied singing at the Maastricht Conservatory . She completed her studies there in 1994. She completed her training at the Accademia Chigiana with Carlo Bergonzi and Renata Scotto as well as with Catherine Green in New York, who is still her singing teacher today.
In 1995 she made her stage debut in the role of Salud in Manuel de Falla’s La vida breve at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater . She then sang leading roles at several houses in Italy and many times at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, including Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Amelia in Verdi’s La traviata and Masked Ball . She received very positive reviews for her portrayal of Blanche in André Previn’s opera A Streetcar Named Desire at the European premiere in Strasbourg in 2001.
An international career followed with guest appearances in Nancy, Toulouse, Montpellier, Nice, Monte Carlo, Liège, Antwerp/Ghent, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden , at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, at the Budapest State Opera and the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv , at the Bregenz Festival , at the Vienna Volksoper , the Hamburg State Opera , the Essen Opera , the Frankfurt Opera , the Cologne Opera , and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf/Duisburg). In her home country she sang at the De Nederlandse Opera and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam . In 2003 she made her debut as Salomé (in Massenet’s Hérodiade ) at the Vienna State Opera , in 2005 she sang the title role in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut , and in the following years she also sang Amelia in the Masked Ball and the title role in Puccini’s Tosca .
In addition to her opera career, she pursues a busy concert career with oratorio and orchestral concerts and song evenings.
