ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
This short opera in 1 act arose from the melodramatic imagination of Maestro BRUNO RIGACCI, composer and orchestra director, who wanted to “give voice” to 12 characters who appear in operas with simple appearances (see the deceased bodies of BUOSO DONATI in the opera “Gianni Schicchi” – COUNT VLADIMIR ANDREJEVICH in “Fedora”, or the brief appearance of KING DUNCAN in “Macbeth” – the mimic action of the servant VESPONE in “La servo padrona”) or of characters who, although not appearing physically, they are evoked by the story of other characters (CONTE PALMIERI, MARCHESA ATTAVANTI in “Tosca” who tell the first of the mockery of his death, the second of how he had inadvertently unleashed Tosca’s jealousy, having been portrayed by Cavaradossi, while trying to hide clothes to facilitate the escape of her brother Cesare Angelotti – THE ARLESIANA, the bewitching seductress who leads her lovers to death in the work that bears her name – the SON OF SORE ANGELICA, the birth of which was shrouded in scandal for being the fruit of a love born outside of marriage, and which caused the closure of the mother, Sister Angelica, in the convent – PRINCESS LOU-LING from “Turandot” the sweet serene ancestress that Turandot wants to avenge for the offenses inflicted on her by foreign invader – BLANCHE GERMONT from “La Traviata”, Alfredo’s sister, Papa Germont’s daughter, who is about to lose her boyfriend, due to Alfredo’s love for the immoral Violetta Valery, and who will be the involuntary cause of the Violetta’s estrangement from her beloved – the OLD GYPSY, Azucena’s mother who tells of when she was led to be tortured at the stake and who asks for revenge, a theme that dominates the entire plot of “The Troubadour” – up to NINA MICHELTORENA, the fiery lover of Ramerrez, the “Johnson of Sacramento” as the bandit in “Maiden of the West” calls himself)
All these characters meet in an imaginative “banquet of the absent”, in which they can finally tell their own truths, reality according to their point of view…
In order not to have 12 monologues, Maestro Rigacci’s imagination invented “impossible relationships” between themselves, which also becomes the reason why the work carries the indication of “melodramatic bizarreness”
A very pleasant, brilliant work, which flows quickly when listening, particularly enjoyable by music lovers who can recognize the numerous quotes hidden in this work.
A production of the “INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF VOCAL ARTS” in New York
who held vocal improvement courses in Italy at Villa Mazzotti in CHIARI (BS).
The students enrolled in the course participate, assisted by their teachers: the excellent pianist JANE STEELE, the legendary DAME MIGNON DUNN, a legend of the Metropolitan of New York who took care of the direction, and Maestro BRUNO RIGACCI himself, creator of the subject, author of the libretto and the music, who here conducts the opera, with the overwhelming enthusiasm that has always characterized his way of “making music” despite the 87 years old he was at the time of this production.
CHIARI is a delightful town, in the center of the wine area called “FRANCIACORTA”… for this reason during the show, in homage to the inhabitants of the area, a character, in offering the wine for a toast, instead of saying “It’s wine of Spain” (a quote that refers to Scarpia in “Tosca”), will say “…IT’S… FRANCIACORTA!”… causing the audience to laugh a little…
