ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The opera portrays RI founder Roger Williams as a young boy in his hometown of Smithfield, England
at the famous Bartholomew Fair, where his family is selling cloth from a booth. Roger gets distracted
from his familial duties and wanders the fair with two companions where they encounter various
characters who comment upon or predict what Roger will become later in life. Eventually Roger
comes to the realization that he won’t be following in his father’s footsteps as a merchant tailor.
