ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The globally celebrated star tenor Richard Tauber was chased from the stage by the Nazis in Berlin in 1933 and settled in his home country Austria. In Austria, Tauber, half-Jew and son of actor Anton Richard Tauber and actress Elisabeth Seifferth, was able to continue his international career. And Richard Tauber was lucky: At the time the German Wehrmacht marched into Austria in March 1938, he was just beginning his concert tour in Italy. He accidentally escaped persecution, but he lost all of his fortune and his home, which he never saw again. Richard Tauber “missed” something indescribable because of his absence. His wife Diana Napier kept this information about the Nazis in his homeland away from him as much as possible.
