Chin-Hsien Chung’s chamber opera *Vom Verschwinden vom Vater* (On the Disappearance of the Father) explores the fading of a family’s collective memories of the father. Through fragmentary recollections and snatches of dialogue, Wolfram Höll depicts the loving, solitary, and poignantly fleeting memories and encounters a family shares with the father, who is nearing the end of his life. The loss of the person—and of the memory itself—is reflected from various perspectives; it is an attempt both to counter this disappearance and to find a way to come to terms with it.
