  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

On 2 June 1122, Emperor Henry V granted city rights to Utrecht and its residents. Utrecht became an official city – one of the very first cities in the Netherlands. This year, we have been celebrating the 900th anniversary of Utrecht acquiring city rights. Holland Baroque, the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the Netherlands Bach Society, the National Children’s Choir, and the Kathedrale Koorschool Suriname will close out this festive year with a musical tribute to the “Domstad”. Together they celebrate this special anniversary with a program based around Georg Friedrich Händel’s compelling Utrecht Te Deum.

    On the musical programme:
Georg Friedrich Handel – Utrecht Te Deum HWV 278
Marin Marais – from Alcyone: Tempeste
Jean-Philippe Rameau – from Naïs: Overture
Jean-Philippe Rameau – from Dardanus: Tambourin pour les peuples differents
trad. / Judith Steenbrink – Today is Saint Merten
trad. / Judith Steenbrink – There rides through the evening
trad. / Judith Steenbrink – Martijn van Tours!
trad. / Judith Steenbrink – St. Martin rides through all weathers
trad. / Judith Steenbrink – Adonai
trad. / Judith Steenbrink – Sinte Mertensaus
Erik Van der Horst – Saint Maaaaaarten! (world premiere)
Erik Van der Horst – The city is now ours (world premiere)
