ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

The opera The Valiant King was created by Alexander Moyzes back in 1935 as a radio opera Svätopluk. It was his first music-dramatic work. It was created from fragments of Ján Jan Hollý’s epic Svätopluk from 1833. It had its premiere in the Bratislava studio of Slovak radio and subsequently also in the Slovak National Theater on October 27, 1935.

In the mid-1960s, A. Moyzes returned to his music-dramatic original and revised it. However, he had to change the name, because in the meantime the opera with the same name, Svätopluk (1960), was also premiered by composer Eugen Suchoň. A revised version, which Moyzes called The Valiant King, premiered on November 4, 1967.
