The Pinnacle Singers is bringing the grand opera Turandot to Deland! Turandot was Giacomo Puccini’s final opera… in fact, he left this earthly realm before he finished it. Another composer, Franco Alfano, created the ending, and it has been considered an operatic masterpiece ever since.
The ancient Chinese legend of Turandot, as it were, goes like this: Turandot, a beautiful, sought after Princess, is known for ruthlessly killing all men who come to court her and attempt to become her King… that is until Prince Calaf (who sings the famous “Nessun dorma”), accompanied by a sweet peasant girl, Liu, happens onto the scene and challenges her entire perspective. I’ll leave the cliffhanger ending up to YOU to discover!
Turandot is often one of the largest operatic spectacles that the most impressive opera houses can produce, requiring hundreds of voices and instrumentalists, lavish costumes, extravagant makeup, and a massive stage crew to handle all the sets. The Pinnacle Singers’ Giles Howe has reduced the score and reimagined a 45-minute English version sure to thrill all audiences.
Joining him to bring the characters to life are Cass Panuska (Princess Turandot), Torlef Borsting (Prince Calaf), and Ashley Nuñez (Liu).
