ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
“TIERRA”: A word that sounds like a balm if you’re aboard a caravel. A word that, when shouted, evokes security, hope, future, joy, miracles, dreams…
Our show begins with the letter that Christopher Columbus sent to Queen Isabella the Catholic upon his return from the first voyage to the Indies.
The queen encourages Columbus to undertake a second voyage to America,
and the caravels will stop on the island of La Gomera, where Beatriz de Bobadilla (the lady with whom Columbus is said to have had an affair) is exiled.
As crew members, among others, will travel, Juan Ponce de León, a beggar, and a pair of scoundrels. Love, plunder, and obsession drive the crew members who want to reach America and start a new life.
The chosen zarzuelas are:
El Huésped del Sevillano, Marina, Alma de Dios, Los Sobrinos del Capitán Grant, Don Gil de Alcalá, El Chaleco Blanco, La Tempestad, La Tabernera del Puerto, Las Leandras, Cadiz, Los Borrachos, La Tempestad, Luna de Miel en el Cairo, El Relámpago, La Bien Amada y El Rey que Rabió.
