Plot
Jack Torrance has lost his teaching job and seeks refuge in an idyllic old resort hotel in the Rocky Mountains with his wife Wendy and their son Danny.
The family will take care of the hotel while it is closed over the winter. Jack hopes that it will provide peace and quiet to finish a play he is working on, help him overcome his alcoholism and aggression, and devote himself to his family.
But the old house is harboring dark secrets. Evil spirits come to life and slowly but surely the idyll turns into a nightmare. Danny, who has a sixth sense, is tormented by terrible visions. Jack becomes obsessed with the bloody history of the hotel and increasingly changed and violent.
It soon becomes clear that the family must get out of there if they want to escape with their lives. But a blizzard makes the roads impassable and when Jack breaks the only communication radio, they are suddenly completely isolated from the outside world…
