ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Winner of six Tony Awards, and nominated for eleven, The Light in the Piazza is a beautifully told story of a woman, Margaret Johnson, who is visiting Italy with her daughter Clara. When Clara, a young woman not quite as mature as her years would suggest, falls in love with an Italian boy, Fabrizio, Margaret vehemently objects. A battle between mother and daughter unfolds as past family struggles and troubles in Margaret’s own marriage fuel the fight. Told against the beautiful backdrop of Florence and Rome, Margaret is resolved to see her daughter’s love blossom as she realizes her own life is sunsetting.
With music written by Adam Guettel, Richard Rodgers’ grandson, the evening provides a lush music score set to a story of young love and familial struggle.
