ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Composed by François-André Danican Philidor in 1761, The Blacksmith in this production is adapted to the 1890s in America’s West translated into English – or Cowboy English as Nick Olcott the stage director and co-adapter calls it. Tapping into the opéra comique tradition of integrating French vaudeville songs so audiences would participate, this production invites even online audiences to join in and sing such American folk songs such as “The Old Grey Mare,” “I Ride an Old Paint,” and “Red River Valley.”
