  The film tells the incredible story of the charismatic Samoan opera star Pene Pati, who rose from extremely humble beginnings to sing his way to the world’s greatest opera stages. In doing so, he fulfilled a dream that seemed impossible: to reach the pinnacle of the most European of all cultural forms as a Samoan.

  The charismatic Samoan tenor Pene Pati is considered the operatic discovery of the decade. In just a few years, he has captivated audiences worldwide, with some even hailing him as the next Pavarotti. His brother Amitai has also made a name for himself as a tenor.

  The film depicts Pene Pati’s remarkable ascent from the islands of Samoa in the South Pacific, via South Auckland in New Zealand, to the world’s greatest opera stages. It’s a rise that seemed almost impossible for a boy from Samoa. Surrounded by singing throughout his childhood and youth, Pati only encountered opera during his university studies. Overwhelmed by a visit to “La Bohème,” he decides to become an opera singer.

  With humor, heart, and captivating singing, the film portrays the success achieved against all odds by pursuing an unlikely dream. Throughout, Pati has remained deeply connected to Samoan culture, where the appreciation of one’s family is paramount. For Pati, his own success is also a success for his family.
