ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The renovated Tonhalle am See celebrates its reopening with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 in D minor. A work that was created at the same time as the Tonhalle Hall by the architects Fellner & Hellmer. SRF shows the concert broadcast with a time delay in a co-production with 3sat.
The renovation of the congress center and the adjoining concert hall took four years. The goal was to bring the Tonhallensaal back to its original state of 1895. Thousands of liters of gray paint were scraped off and the ceiling painting restored. Now the pillars shine pink as they once did, the golden decorated balustrade swings gracefully through the hall.
But the renovated concert hall should not only impress with its beauty, but also with its acoustics, which are said to have gotten even better after the renovation. This can be checked for the first time at the opening concert, with a work that, with its huge orchestra, is ideally suited for this, with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 in D minor. For the first time, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich will be playing at the lake again under the direction of chief conductor Paavo Järvi, together with the alto Wiebke Lehmkuhl, the women of the Zürcher Sing-Akademie and the Zurich Boys’ Choir
Outstanding..there np other works to say…..bravo,…the great Mahler and a outstanding orchestra and conductor and choir and soloist….bravo to all,
