ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

This production is inspired by Igor Stravinskij ‘s opera Histoire du Soldat (1918) for instrumental chamber ensemble, narrator, actor and ballet. The opera tells the story of a young soldier returning from the front who receives from the devil a book as a gift that makes his every wish come true. The boy, taken by this special gift, believes he will be away only three days, but when he arrives home three years have passed: no one recognizes him, his fiancée has gotten married. He has therefore lost his motivation, time, freedom and affections. From this moment on, his existence will be a succession of alternating events, where, more or less consciously, he will always be under the control of the devil, who in the end will be ready to kidnap him, taking him away with him to the rhythm of a triumphal march.

What makes this story modern is the theme of deception and addictions . We imagined that the “magical” object, instead of the book, is a smartphone, with all the analogies that follow. From here we want to provoke a reflection on the relationship of young people with the web and in particular with social networks, on the risks of these tools and on how they can instead be used in a healthy and constructive way. The work is staged by Paola Benocci and with the contribution of some classes of the Liceo Scientifico G. Galilei who, after a workshop conducted with the accompaniment of the teacher Andrea Sguerri and our consultant psychologist Duccio Ciampoli, will produce some multimedia content to accompany the show.
