Following the 2023 Season of the Orquestra Sinfônica de Goiânia, the City Hall of Goiânia, through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, presents the already traditional “Easter Concert” to the public of the capital. That year, the “Stabat Mater” by the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) will be presented. It is a work written for soloists, chorus and orchestra, considered one of the masterpieces of the universal sacred repertoire. On stage, the joining of a large number of instrumentalists and singers to perform this work of great artistic scope. The voices of the Coro Sinfônico de Goiânia will join the Coro Juvenil de Goiânia, which, together with the instrumentalists of the Orquestra Sinfônica de Goiânia, will add up to 150 musicians on stage to musically celebrate one of the most important periods of the Christian calendar: Easter. As soloists we will have soprano Patrícia Mello, mezzo-soprano Sara Veras, tenor Eduardo Machado and bass Marco Antônio Assunção. The regency will be in charge of guest conductor Dr. Angelo Dias, professor at EMAC-UFG with an extensive record of services provided to choral music in Goiânia, having even acted as principal conductor of the Coro Sinfônico de Goiânia for a long period.
The Stabat Mater is a 13th-century Catholic prayer (hymn) that meditates on the suffering of Mary, the mother of Jesus, during the crucifixion. It has been set to music by several composers around the world.
