The historical journey offered by this series dedicated to the Stabat Mater begins with the oldest example of those chosen: the one composed by Luigi Boccherini. Composed in 1781 on commission from Infante Luis de Borbón—the composer’s patron during his forced exile in Arenas de San Pedro—this work for soprano and string quintet stands out for its delicacy and serenity, although its dark and intimate tone also reflects the despair of the original text.
