Composer and lyricist George Beilin unveils Siddhartha, the first act of his ambitious opera, a powerful musical journey chronicling the life of Siddhartha Gautama from birth to enlightenment and his return to Lumbini. Blending classical traditions with a deeply psychological perspective, Beilin breathes new life into this ancient tale with emotional intensity and spiritual depth.

Original Music and Libretto by Beilin
With 12 original arias and melodious songs, all penned and composed by Beilin himself, Siddhartha showcases his dual talents as a storyteller and musician. The opera explores themes of identity, suffering, and transcendence, drawing on Beilin’s clinical psychology background to portray the Buddha’s inner evolution as much as his outer journey.

    A Global Collaboration
International vocalists bring this operatic vision to life, embodying the characters and emotional arcs with passion and precision. Beilin’s diverse cast lends a global voice to this timeless story, resonating with modern audiences across cultures.

A New Kind of Opera for the Modern Era
With Siddhartha, George Beilin offers more than just music—he delivers an immersive, soul-searching experience. This opera is a testament to his unique ability to fuse spirituality, psychology, and classical composition, establishing him as a boundary-pushing composer to watch.

    Act 1
follows Siddhartha from his birth to his meeting, then marrying, Yashodara. The libretto further follows the important spiritual relationship his mother Maya has from her early death during the first week after Siddhartha’s birth to the roleBrahma (God) gives to her to help her son attain enlightenment.

    Act 2
It is another day in Lumbini as villagers go about their daily activities and interactions. Siddhartha’s wife, Yashodara, walks with her now teenage son Rahula and greets Aarush, Siddhartha’s childhood friend. As they engage in conversation, a man suddenly appears in the distance walking slowly on a mountainside path towards the village. Yashodara and Aarush recognize the man’s familiar features as do the villagers who look towards him with curiosity. They soon realize that it is indeed Siddhartha who has returned after being gone for many years. Siddhartha stops along the mountain path to share with everyone what induced him to leave Lumbini and describes all the events that transpired along his way. Once he finishes, Yashodara, Aarush and the Villagers happily rush to greet him. Upon seeing this incredible reunion from above, Maya informs Brahma (God) that her task to help Siddhartha spiritually through his life journey to this moment is now complete. The Opera ends with Siddhartha singing about what constitutes enlightenment as Yashodara, Aarush, Rahula and the Villagers join Siddhartha to thank Brahma (God) for all His offerings on earth.
